CONTRIBUTING is issue-first for non-trivial features, so this must go up before the PR (#13). Draft ready: describes append-vs-insert from a user's perspective, proposes nearest-segment (min-detour) insertion, sketches the implementation, discloses AI assistance, and asks the maintainers whether they'd take the PR + their preference on the detour metric (added-distance vs perpendicular).
